DEPARTMENT PROGRAMMING
the programming for the departments is a good and easy way to use as you have the alphanumeric letters which is what i find good about the XE-A203nextledge.... October 30th, 2011
You buy it because its cheep
I program sharp cash registers for a living and with the cover of the Internet; I can really say what I think about a particular model. Most models are a good design and easy to program after they have been set up.The only really good aspect of the XE-A203 is that it is cheep. No I am serous, if you can afford to by an ER series register, you will be much happier. True, if you compare the price of a 203 to a 410, the next comparable model up, it is double in price but it is also double the quality and features.
Things to consider when buying this register:
·The printer only has one tape. You decide if it should be a journal or a customer receipt.
·Definite quality difference between the XE line and the ER line. Thinner plastic and thinner metal.
·Essentially unrepairable. If anything breaks on it, you buy a new one. There are only 3 main parts to the register, the mainboard, printer and keyboard. If any of those 3 gets damaged, it's half the cost of a new register.
·I think the warranty is a lot less on the XE models, like maybe only 3 months. The ER series has a year.
·The keys cannot be moved and the features that are available on the keyboard are all that's there is.
·There is no service mode or hidden features. All programming and settings can be done in programming mode - no security
·Be aware too that the 203 only comes with a raised keyboard.
·Can not connect scanners, scales or remote printers
·Has a 7-segment display. A tougher when putting names in. You can't see what you typed so far.
Positive feature besides price
·It does have an SD card slot to back the program up provided that you can still find a card that is 512Meg or less and it only keeps one copy on the disk.
·It does come with free software for programming and polling.
·It is light. About 25 pounds. Ideal when needing a cash register at special events
