Pc Link Doesn't Function

After I connect the PC link USBs to my two laptops (each running XP), the icon does NOT appear. I simply have a sharelink window that looks a lot like a regular windows explorer window. The other laptop's directories do not appear. So for now, the PC link is unusable for me. How can I get it to function?
