error is 'Time of day clock bettery is low' Can i replace this battery or must i replace the hole mainboard?

Yes. It is replacable. The Dell EqualLogic PS50E, PS100E, PS200E, PS300E, and PS400E, all use the exact same controller. This controller is known as the Type II / Type 2 SATA, part number 70-0011 or T946J, and also known as the "blue" controller.

The Time-of-day clock battery is a standard watch battery like the CMOS battery on a mother board. You will need to remove the controller and remove the dead battery and take it with you so you know which type of watch battery to buy as a replacement.

If replacing the battery does not resolve the warning message, then the controller is most likely faulty and may need to be replaced.

The time of day clock battery on early model Equallogic arrays (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 - and I believe also the Type 4) - is contained in a yellow colored rectangular component on the controller board. It is NOT the coin cell battery.

This yellow colored component is approximately 3/4" x 1/2" in size - and should say the following on the top of it:

Timekeeper

Snaphat

Contains Lithium Cell

To replace it - pull gently and it should come out of the board mounted socket it is installed in. Replacement pieces are available if you search for the part number imprinted on the component. I found them available in a number of places.
