Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a direct way to turn off the tape counter display during playback on the Samsung SCL906 VCR. VCRs of this era typically have the tape counter always visible as a way to track your position on a tape.
Here are a few things to consider:
User Manual: Double-check your SCL906's user manual. Though unlikely, there might be a hidden setting or obscure button combination for this.
Display Dimming Option: Some VCRs, but probably not the SCL906, offer the ability to dim the display slightly, making the counter less distracting.
External Timer/Cover: If the counter is truly bothersome, you could:
Use an external timer if you need to know elapsed playback time.
Creatively cover a small portion of the screen in front of the tape counter with something non-damaging to block the LEDs.
