I Have A T 3092, 512 Mb, 160 Gb Desktop Computer The Is Very, Very Slow.

Most every time I start up, a message comes up saying that Windows explorer must be shut down. There is a long delay between clicking a function and having it come up. Some times, no icons appear at all upon starting. Also, it says that I'm low on virtual memory. Will upgrading memory solve my problems?  If so, can I add 1 GB or do I need 2 512 MB units?
