Dvd Recorded From Vhs Tape Will Not Play On Other Dvd Players

I've just created a new DVD from one of our old VHS tapes. The DVD will only play on the Zenith DVD player, it does not work on any other DVD player. I've tried 2 different DVD players, 3 laptops with DVD readers - all state the disk is not readable or does not contain any content. I assume it's something to do with the way the recorder finalizes the DVD but not sure.
