Won't Record Most Ota Channels

I scanned this recorder for all of the channels, but it will only record one station. I get an error that the channel is "protected content". Is there a "fix" for this? I read that there is some kind of software problem with this unit. It's a piece of crap

The Toshiba D-VR650 is a DVD player that only plays DVDs. It does not play Blu-Ray discs. There are many reasons why you would get an error message about protected content, but the most likely reason is that the DVD you are trying to play has copy protection on it.
