Ipod Wont Play When On The Ipod Device But Will Charge.

I just got a New rca radio from target. It states on the box will play ipods. Mine is a ipod touch 4th generTion. But when i put it on the dock and turn it to ipod nothing happens. it says no ipod but it charges it just fine. But my ipod does work with other radios why is this.
