Does Pioneer Avh-x491bhs Have An Sd Card I Can Replace To Fix The Bootloop Error

After some car work with the battery disconnected, now my head unit has the dreaded bootloop error and none of the buttons are responsive. Reports for several other models say the SD card is corrupted and can be replaced with an up to date firmware image to fix this. I took apart the X491BHS and can't find an SD card. And it doesn't appear that I can update firmware through external USB since none of the buttons respond, making it impossible to get into settings. Has anyone dealt with this model and have a suggestion? Pioneer service centers want $200 to get it working again, and at that price I may as well just buy a new one.

What troubleshooting steps have been tried already?

  1. Manual reset poking in the tiny reset button with car off and in park and then restarting the car - sometimes the main screen shows up for one second and then goes to the language selection screen but won't accept inputs to move past the language screen.
  2. Disconnected battery power for five minutes, reconnect, restart.
  3. External USB formatted to FAT32 with only the new firmware image on it for this receiver. No combination of button presses or long holds after a reset prompts a firmware install.
  4. Searched inside the unit for an SD card to replace. The unit doesn't have one.
