My Opener Wont Open Or Close

Red light is on on the bottom of the opener but it won't work with the Wired pad when I was trying to set the limits it says in the instructions to hold the button but I had to push it repeatedly to set the open and close but it won't work this is a genie silentmax 1000 Revolution series model 3042
