USB Cable has one end that hooks up to your computer (look for the slot on the side of your computer that matches it) and the other end of the cable attaches to your phone.
Power comes out of the USB port when the computer is off for the convenience of those devices that use USB for charging). Therefore, you can charge the external device without having to turn the computer on.

Use the provided cable, the mini-usb end to your GPS & the USB side to the PC.
