Sound But No Video

I set up my camera for the first time last night and when I retrieved it this morning and pulled the SD card there were several AVI files but they recorded sound only...no video whatsoever. I played around with settings, made the video smaller, etc, still won't record video. In the pictures mode it works fine, so why am I not getting video? I am using a 4 gig HD SD card so it should be plenty capable to hold high quality video clips.
