I Have A Brother Nx400q And The Feed Dog Control Doesn't Move.

I have a brother nx400q and the feed dog control doesn't move. At times I need to pull the fabric along just to sew it, so I'm thinking that the feed dogs are not up enough.  I found the control and it doesn't move at all.  What do you do?  Is there maybe another reason why the fabric doesn't move along like it should when I'm sewing?  Also when I try to do a buttonhole it doesn't always move the fabric along and sometimes gets stuck in one place, then the machine forgets where it is on the buttonhole and ends up making a small button hole or not do the other side of the buttonhole. email address is [email protected].
