LG M2362D-PM Reviews

LG M2362D-PM - great concept but lousy firmware

Conceptually with its various inputs (2x HDMI, DVI, VGA, S-Video, Component+R/L, Composite +R/L) and versatile On/Off + Sleep Timers this is a great product, if only the firmware implementation wouldn't be so lousy (just like with its older brother M237WD) - and LG is not willing to fix it!

Being aware of the limitations of its TN LCD panel, this TV/Monitor would be close to perfect, wouldn't it be for these stupid implementation shortcomings, spoiling its daily use quite a bit:

1.) Despite the claims in the manual, the device is incapable of auto-setting its clock and displaying the current program information from any CaDTV (digital cable TV) station - this ONLY works with DTV (digital over-the-air) ones. With the many very brief power interruptions in the US, it is very annoying to each time have to set the clock again manually and lose the On-Timer functionality until then.

2.) The small top left hand TV window in Channel Edit mode is utterly useless, since it continues to show the program you watched before entering Channel Edit, instead of tuning to the channel you currently selected in the channel list. So you have no idea if the selected channel number is actually the station you want to add or remove. This is just plain stupid.

3.) In CaDTV mode (cable TV)) it is not possible to chose any but the highest found digital program to be used as Timer-On channel, simply because the faulty firmware doesn't offer to select any of the many other digital HD programs. Instead it just jumps the whole CaDTV section of channels that can be found in the Channel Edit table. This is utterly annoying and severely limiting the On-Timer's usefulness. What a blunder!

4.) And now the worst. Watching VCR recordings through A/V, every so often the TV freezes up during/after the re-syncing phase of the VCR's video signal, after skipping an ad and honing back in to the beginning of next part of the recorded show. The device then doesn't respond to neither any IR remote control command nor to the local keys. The only way to reset it, is to pull the power cord.
During those freeze-ups it is on occasion apparently possible, that the firmware gets altered, resulting in the A/V input not displaying any incoming video signal anymore - the screen then remains black.
This now happened twice to me, the first time LG replaced my M237WD with a M2364D-PM, but after just 4 months, this one now has the very same issue and is on its way to LG for repair.
And this WILL happen again, unless LG finally commissions a fixed firmware - which sadly and very disappointingly so far they won't.

And as an additional note:
it is a frustrating nuisance that this TV, like so many other consumer electronics with a built-in on-timer, fails to buffer its internal clock for at least some 5...10 sec during those quite frequent, but rather short power interruptions, while the local grid is protecting itself from damage through temporary overload.
In the 21st century this shouldn't be an issue anymore at all.

an excellent monitor for my asus Eee

since the Asus only has a 10inch display I was looking for a suitable fullHD monitor and found it at TDC(danish Telecom)
the installation was easy although there was no manual or installation guide and the my old Terristal antenna found fast 40 channels in an excellent nearly 3D QUALITY
THE PRICE WAS APPR 180 EURO AND IVE USED IT ALSO FOR SLIDESHOWS FOR MY oLYMPUS SLR HAVING AN IMPRESSIVE EFFECT BY USING PICASA

the picture is excellent so the remote and all the information FOR THE ADVANCED USAGE
