The first thing to do is read the user manual.  This is all explained there.  http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000000300.pdf

Everything else can be found here:  http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54GS

You need to log into the management interface.

There is a really good article here that shows how to do this.  http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=cfb50c0dc992443ab2405a782cca60f7_19073.xml

Assuming everything is at default, open a browser and connect to http://192.168.1.1.  It's best to use a hard wired connection, not the wifi for this.

Log in as "admin" and use "admin" as the password.

From here the screens change depending on what firmware version you have. Click the Wireless  tab, then the Wireless Security option.

Look for a WiFi tab and /or configuration or setup.  The settings are there.  You'll want to turn on "WPA2 personal" in the security mode pull down.

Enter a pass-phrase.  This is the password you'll need to use to connect a laptop to the router.  Click on Save Settings.

That should be it.
