Volumne Spikes Up To Full Volumne On Its Own

My Denon AVR-1602/682 AV surround sound system will instantly spike the volumne up to full volumne on it's own. It does this intermittantly. How can I fix this problem. It just started when I used the Denon remote to balance speakers for a new subwoofer. I am going to try removing batteries from this remote and return o using my universal remote which wsill opderate all my components. Is this a possible cause; the Denon remote?

This is caused by interference to the IR sensor, place a small paper to cover it,

The interference does not just have to originate from remotes, other devices output signals in the IR frequency range and can cause strange behaviour.

Try blocking the IR receiver to see if it does stop the volume increase. if it still increases with the IR blocked then the cause lies elsewhere.
