Dell Xps 8300 Will Not Power-up

Changed ram from 4 by 1 gb to 2 by 1 gb plus 2 by 4 gb.  Amber light came on and then nothing.   The power supply light in the back just blinks when the plug is inserted and it stays off.  I reseated all the memory and checked that everything was generally in order and then tried to power up but it does not work.  Does the power supply light off means that the power supply is damaged???  Please advise.

Dell's a very picky with the brand of RAM you install. These is because a list of accepted brands of RAM is stored in the system BIOS

Also you have to ensure that your system supports the specification, size and quantity of RAM you are trying to install.

Your PSU (power supply unit) is probably fine BTW. It is your combination of RAM and system compatibilty that is causing the boot problem.

Best to check a RAM re-seller website such as crucial.com to see what the actual RAM upgrade options are for your particular system
