Os Setup Cannot Locate Devices

I have a pcg-k23. i rebooted the system and get the error "system not fully setup". I got a OS disc for XP and win7, but when I install it freezes and I get the message that installation could not connect to soem device on the computer. Does any ony know of a good way to deal with this. I think it is the memory stick, because the installation fails when the light on the me stick goes on. thanks
