New Eide Hdd And Ram Upgrade?

I'm helping my friend who owns this particular model of laptop. It takes over 2 minutes to boot to Windows XP login screen and after you login, it takes about 5 minutes or more before it responds to anything you click on.I am shopping for a new EIDE hard drive for him (my friend) and a memory upgrade but it would seem that sony won't tell you what the largest and fastest memory upgrade would be. If anybody can help me with this, please send me a message. If we do get the new hard drive, I am unsure as to whether an 80gig would be big enough for Windows 7 Home Premium, I have found only 1 160gig hdd for sale on the net, would that be big enough for Windows 7?

The computer just needs to be cleaned properly. It is probably loaded with malware and bloatware. The original OS is XP, it will also take Vista (with a little modification) but will not take 7. 2GB is the max on memory, but only certain manufacturer brands will work. With the 1.73 GHz Intel M 740 2MB L2 533 FSB Centrino soldered to the motherboard it will be difficult and expensive to attempt to frankenstein a faster CPU. The standard 80 GB 4200rpm Ultra ATA hard drive (installed) is more than enough for home use and installing a larger drive (easy) is not the cure. Clean the registry, purge MSIE, defrag and tweak the parms. She'll run like brand new!
