Photos Hating A290 To Ipad

ive got a load of pics sat on my a290 DSLR that need to be downloaded. i bought an iPad camera connection kit but when I hook the camera and pad together via USB , it says they're not compatible?? Any help would be great!

The adapter is likely not compatible with this camera. From what I've read online it seems the adapter is compatible with very few cameras.
