I wonder if there is a firmware update to play mkv video in this LCD TV?

We can not be sure the latest firmeware can support the MKV video formate' however' you can download the Samsung Driver Update Tool here Which was released on 06-10-2014

OR you can confirm from samsung before you download the tool 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864/1-800-726-7864) Mon - Sun : 9am - Midnight (EST)
