Foot Control Pedal Wont Work, Cant Thing What Is Wrong, Help......

i have a pfaff 1119 sewing machine and it is in good order and the foot control pedal too. however, when I plug in the foot pedal, it just wont work, doesn't seem the power is getting through to the machine. help..... elizabeth
