'tacky' Plas. On Pentax Dcf Mc Ii [8x20]

Around 5 yrs ago [?] I got a Pentax 8x20 dcf mc II binocular for theater use by my lady [no receipts or S/N found, prob. [?] from B&H]. It is compact for her purse and has been optically good [roof prism multi-coat phase-coat ... and though I never expected this, the plastic joint structure around the center focus has gotten nastily 'sticky/tacky' and she doesn't want to even touch there. She stores them inside at room temp. Clearly this is a manufacturing defect I sure Pentax didn't expect, and I presume this item is not now in warranty ... but is there a remedy??? Has this model been recalled??? Is there a reasonable substitution to a 10x25 if 8x20 is N/A.??? I first tried fitting some tape over the tacky area, but it doesn't stick well to the migrating plasticizer and soon the tape slides/curls off with use. Is there a tape or coating that firmly sticks to the plasticizer??? Is there a safe, available solvent or cleaning process that leaves a solid 'dry' surface??? Is there an improved part you can install to replace the defective area and maintain alignment? In the unlikely event Pentax is not aware of this, I can send back for your inquiry. I appreciate your consideration and help to resolve this to her satisfaction. Steve { Please do not keep, maintain, record, share or distribute my e-addr => delete it! }
