If You Move Out Of The Mediacom Service Area, Can They Hold You To Your Contract

My son and his wife signed a 2 year contract with Mediacom when they moved into their new apartment.  In the 5 months they were there, they were burgularized twice so they are moving to an area that Mediacom does not service.  The apartment complex is letting them out of their lease agreement but Medicom is saying they will have to pay for the remaining time left on their contract (almost 15 months!).  They are not trying to cancel their service because of any other reason except that they are moving to an area that Mediacom doesn's service.  Help!

Relocation, in general, does not qualify for relief from the Early Termination Fee (ETF) in your service contract.  The ETF is a specific amount based on the number of months left in your contract.  This fee is far less than the sum of 15 months at your current rate.  This fee is collected to recoup the difference between the discounted contract rate and the regular rate for month to month customers.  If you could email your account information to [email protected] we will be able to look into more options for you.  Thank you for your time.
