If the Lowrance Mark-5x DSI unit is not displaying the speed from the paddle wheel even though the cable is plugged in and a new cable has been tried, there are a few possible reasons why this might be happening:
  1. Faulty paddle wheel: It's possible that the paddle wheel itself is faulty or damaged, which would prevent it from sending speed data to the display unit.
  2. Electrical issues: There may be a problem with the electrical connections or wiring between the paddle wheel and the display unit, which could be preventing the speed data from being transmitted.
  3. Display unit malfunction: The display unit itself may be malfunctioning and unable to display the speed data, even if it is receiving it from the paddle wheel.

To troubleshoot the issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check the paddle wheel: Make sure that the paddle wheel is clean, undamaged, and free of any debris or obstructions that might be blocking it from spinning. If there are any visible problems, replace the paddle wheel with a new one.
  2. Check the electrical connections: Make sure that the electrical connections between the paddle wheel and the display unit are clean, tight, and free of any corrosion. If necessary, clean the contacts and make sure that the wires are properly connected.
  3. Check the display unit: If the paddle wheel and electrical connections are fine, try resetting the display unit to its default settings. If this does not work, it may be necessary to have the unit professionally inspected or repaired.

If none of these steps work, it may be necessary to contact Lowrance customer support for further assistance.
