Kodak I730 Paper Jam Flashes Even Before Attempting To Scan.

All three scanners acquired in April 2010 have developed the problem of showing a paper jam before even attempting to scan. On turning on, the units go through initialisation, then the power geen light comes on but the paper jam light flashes. The scanners will load paper but when you attempt scanning, they input tray returns to bottom. All the paper paths have been cleaned and there is no obstacle in the paper bath Attempt to change firmware to version 2.4 on one of them made the situation worse with the bottom light (spanner) now permnently lit.

The best advice we can give is to have a trained Kodak Field Engineer come and address the issue. With equipment such as this which is important to your business we suggest having a Service Contract on the scanners so you will get issues such as this taken care of quickly and will also get the benefit of pro-active Preventative Maintenance. But... if you choose not to have a Kodak Service Contract on your scanners Kodak can still fix your scanners and charge you by parts and labor used. The phone numbers and email address for Kodak Service and Support can be found at www.kodak.com/go/dicontacts.

A few things to try.

1. Check both the upper and lower black background plates to see if any of the black paint has worn away and now there is silver being seen on the plate. Just take a black magic marker or nail polish and go over the areas where the silver is showing through. (When the scan module sees the silver it thinks there is a page jammed in the scanner.

2. Clean the two elevator sensors. The bottom sensor can be accessed by removing the elevator and cleaning the black sensor at the front with a q-tip and then remove the pick up rollers and spray out the sensor area with canned air. This sensor tells the scanner that the elevator is in the proper position to feed pages.
