Kitchenaid Model# Uxb1200dys Fan Surges

I have never had a fan operate like this. The first time I started it up 1st and 2nd speed seemed normal. When I moved the switch to 3rd it was like it had been hit with nitrous oxide. It lifted the vent covers in their housing. When I dropped it back to low the fan would speed up to what would seem normal for low but would then slow down to almost zero and them speed back up to speed. It would then just keep repeating the sequence. Any thoughts on what the problem is or at least what to check?Thanks,Gene
