Printer Connections

I have an HP R80xi printer that is hooked up to an older IBM ThinkPad running Wiindows XP, and also a newer Le Novo ThinkPad running Window 7. The HP R80xi printer has a parallel connector to my older ThinkPad, but the new ThinkPad accepts only a USB printer input. Two questions: 1) How can I connect my HP R80xi printer to my new ThinkPad? 2) The new ThinkPad runs Windows 7 and the old ThinkPad runs Windows XP. Will there be a software problem?
