Further Query Regarding Scanjet G 3010
h Probably a dumb question next, but how do I fin dzplj9 sent me a possible fix for a problem with my G3010 scanner and Windows XP. I am following his advice and have done a normal un-install. He advises then removing the folder that refers to my scanner. So far I can see three folders called HP and two called HP Update. I also have an HP Laserjet 1020 and don't want to affect this. How do I identify the correct folder(s) please. Probably a dumb question now, but how do I find regedit and identify the entries that refer to my scanner? I haven't got there yet and it may be obvious. Sorry for the extra queries.

My advice do not go into your registry deleting items that you are not sure how it will effect your OS. As for the folders, if they are empty after the un-install then it's safe to remove them, otherwise leave them alone.

I agree that messing with the registry can be dangerous.
One thing that can help is to look in device manager and look at the properties of each of the HP devices you have. Then noting the drivers it gives you. One will have the drivers that relate to the G2010. Delete this folder and try that. You can also rename the HP folders to a different name so the links will not work. Do this one at a time to be sure. These are ways of finding the relevant folder. If that works then great.
However if you can give me some time I will see what I can find out regarding what to delete from your system without damage. This requires me replicating your system. I have a an XP machine which can be utilised. May take a few days before I can fully respond. Shame we do not have a PM system.
If no luck come back with what you have found.
