Ide Drive Channel

I just bought the motherboard GA-P45TR-ES3G. When I install my single IDE disk, the motherboard insists it will be the fourth IDE chan --even though all the other channels have no disks, indeed the MB has only one IDE connector. The bios setup has 4 IDE channels visible, but it again insists the disk is channel 4. The problem is that Win XP that I am trying to (re) load from that disk seems to insist on a IDE chan 0 for boot. The MB manual does not speak of four ide channels at all, and I can’t find a jumper on the board that might affect the ide channel count DO you have any reference to a help file or explanation of why the MB insists on 4 IDE channels when there is only one?

The on-board SATA controllers can be configured for IDE emulation and will show up first. Disable the on-board SATA controller and the issue should go away.

IDE is also referred to a PATA (Parallel ATA). It's the same basic technology as SATA (Serial ATA). The issue relates to the order the controller chips are being detected and the memory address they use.
