Bose Lifestyle 28 - Problem With Zone 2 Sources

Hi I have inherited a  Bose Lifestyle 28 system with a second SA2 powered zone 2 system. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to listen to a different source in zone 2 all the time. Most specifically I have my music going into the AV28 as an Optical input and appearing on the AUX input. I can listen to aux in both zones or just one but as soon as I change the input for zone 1 it stops playing music in Zone 2. Any ideas welcome!
