Bose Lifestyle 28 Only Working On 2 Speakers And Not 3 Or 5 Speakers ??????

Hi I have a bose lifestyle 28 system which I have owned for 9 years I am currently having a problem where I watch DVDS and I can only listen to it in 2 speaker stereo if i try watching in 3 speaker or 5 speaker surround I get the surround sound ( Music ) but when the actors are talking there words are all muffled...
