Display Lights Do Not Work

I have Yamaha CD-C600 and R-S201. Initially this unit worked well. Then the display that gave me the volume level did not work. I tried the 'dimmer', no results. I changed the batteries in the amplifier remote, no results. I unplugged the unit, no results.I am an 88 year old female, and have run out of things to try to get the display back. Could you please help>
