Why doesn't the WD hard drive icon show when I plug it into the computor? It shows a generic icon. The drive still works and files will all open

This might be related to the customization or settings of your Operating Systems. There might be a theme installed on your Operating System. As long as you can use your hard disk, I cannot see any problem about this.
