Power On

My tv will not come on with my cable remote control or tv remote control unless I push the button for about 5 minutes. However, it has no problem going off when I push either power off button. Also, it will not come on or go off with the power button on the side of the tv. What could the problem be? I have only had it a couple of years.

you need the power supply repaired. this is a symptom of some filter capacitors going bad. these parts are generic and replacement parts are available at Radio Shack and such.

The capacitors look like cylinders with a flat top on the power board (where the AC power cord hooks to). The bad ones will have the top puffed up slightly. The values are printed on the side and are probably 1000 microfarad at 10VDC, replace them with same value at a higher voltage rating as long as it will fit it the same area on the board. you can replace them yourself or take the parts and the board to a shop and they can install them for about $25.
