Screen
the screen just started showing black and white dots the size of nats. are there any recalls on this model?

There is no recall for the HLT-5676 that I know about. I wish there was as I just had Sears repiar my set for this exact problem. It turned out to be the DLP chip and it took two techs to fix it. The cost was a bit over $600 as I did not have their extended service agreement ( a mistake I since have corrected). The chip alone is over $325 and it takes two techs because the TV needs to be completely recalibrated once the chip is replaced since that is the chip that contains the millions of mirrors that makes the set work. One tech does the adjustment while the other tech tells him how to correct the adjustment. It took them a bit over two hours to do the repair.

My television (same model) was doing the same thing. There is a forum on Cnet.com that there are many other users encountering the same problem.
I called Samsung to file a claim and the 5676 model is not covered but the 5675 is... So I posted on the Cnet forum my dissatisfaction about the lack of Samsung's willingness to pay for the repair. A Samsung tech replied stating they'd escalate the request to their manager. The next day I got a call from Samsung and they're coming out to fix my TV at no cost.
If you post on the CNET forum, make sure you include your TRANSACTION number from your phone call to Samsung. I also included my model and serial number.
