Tv Shuts Off Randomly While Watching Satelight Tv,
We have changed receivers 4 times, had a repairman come out & he said it wasn't the lamp, even changed how the receiver was connected to the tv. Everything we have done lasts a matter of weeks or months before it happens again. When it shuts off, we turn everything off then back on & it is ok for a little while. We don't seem to have this problem when we are watching dvd's.

This sounds interesting. When it shuts off, what are the symptoms? I'm willing to bet if you watched enough DVD hours it would happen then too. I'm willing to bet the problem is either the lamp or the DMD board.
Unfortunately the only way to prove either for sure is through substitution. I know this set well and I can't tell you how many times a lamp was bought cheaply off line and the life was any where from 2 hours to 5 months long. Those cheap lamps you pick up are many times factory seconds sold in lots. There is only one way to evaluate a lamps life is to monitor what the ballast is doing. this is quite a job to do and all it can prove is how that lamp is performing during the testing procedure. The looks can mot tell you anything about the life expectancy.
The DMD board has the job of controlling the DLP Chip, the color wheel and the ballast (which controls the lamp). As long as the color wheel is running nice and quiet (when going bad will make a sound like a noisy fan), and since ballasts rarely go bad in his manner (they go bad and stay bad), then the problem is either the lamp or the DMD board. Oh yea, it could be the DVI cable from the digital board the the DMD board. I have removed this cable and reattached it to make new connections on the pins. Usually bumping this cable will shut you set off if it's the culprit.
