How To Check The Router ?

I did connect the router to the westell modell 6100 modem. A cable from the modem to the router and a cable from the router to the computer. the dsl and internet light is not on. and my laptop can not connect to the internet. How can I check for the problems.

Did you connect your land line into the modem? And if so how long ago did you allow the modem to restart/reboot? My dsl requires me to connect a filter splitter (one that splits a regular phone line and a internet line) in order for my internet to work properly. And are you posting through your home internet right now or via phone? Not sure what you mean by how to check router, are you trying to see if it works correctly?

Was there a spefic reason that you disconnected your modem/router/computer in the first place? Were you not receiving internet as the reason? If you weren't getting internet from the get go your internet service might be temporarily down at the moment.
