You can upgrade an outdated scanner driver through HP Support's Website. The webpage for your model can be viewed here
Once at the link, choose your operating system from the drop down menu for a list of available drivers, software, firmware, etc.
You should also see a link titled HP Diagnostic tools,which you can also download and run to resolve your scanner issue automatically, if possible.
More information can be viewed at the website, if needed,
