Cartridge Does Not Move To Center

What is wrong with my HP Deskjet 882C printer when I open the cover - printer is on and cartridge holder does not automatically ride to the center of the printer? I have tried to find a "service Manual" for this printer and am not hasving good luck at all. Please advise.
