What happened the spell check in the answer window?

I got a message from HelpOwl and they said it is not working yet after the change they adopted last week

It's still there.  It's been moved up to the format bar.  Look for the "ABC" with the checkmark.

Both answers are actually correct. We "upgraded" to a new version of TincyMCE (http://www.tinymce.com) about 10 days ago, which had the benefit of supporting more browsers, but the downside of losing certain functionality for some reason. The spellchecker is available in certain browsers (as kcmjr noted), but not others. We will work on a patch to get it back in all browsers and should have it completed shortly. Thanks for your patience.

Update - 12/31/11: The spellchecker is fixed in all browsers!
