I think Kerv may have missed the point of the question, which as I understand it goes to the accumulation of points by users. Here are some tips that may be useful.
  • Limit your activity to answering questions and downloading manuals. The point yield for asking questions is insignificant.
  • Take advantage of Help Owl's notifications, for questions about companies of interest to you.
  • Make yourself familiar with the documentation for those companies.
  • After you're familiar with the documentation, you'll encounter questions requiring further research. In general it's best to skip those questions, as the time needed will not be sufficiently productive.
  • It's also best in general to skip questions already answered even when you think the first answer is deficient. The vast majority of questions are not Accepted by the respective askers; so you'll be dependent on Help Owl staff to make that judgment. Sad to say, staff's judgment is not impressive.
  • Staff weighs (too) heavily questioners' Helpful/Not Helpful assessments. Unfortunately, questioners may deem a correct answer Not Helpful if does not solve the problem or is not what they want to hear. Accordingly, you may want to ingratiate yourself to questioners with sympathy and courtesy.
  • Set aside regular time for answering questions (or downloading manuals).
  • Don't waste your time requesting support from Help Owl staff. Sometimes support requests are answered, other times not.
  • Use a reminder program (Nudgemail and Myreminde.rs are good ones) to check the acceptance for a particular answer if you're not 100% sure of it. An interval of 9 days will allow ample time.

There really are no secrets to success on here. Just know what you're doing and talking about and follow the rules. Submitting manuels gets you the most points, but takes longer than answering questions. Make sure your answers are your own, and not somone else's answers copied and pasted from another site. If caught doing this, you could loose priveleges of answering questions and uploading manuels because they aren't paying you points to steal others answers.

There are many different stratigies you can use to answer questions and earn points, you'll just have to give it a try and see what works for you. I personally give myself a goal of how many questions I have to answer before logging out at night (usually my goal is 10 to 15) After that goal is finished, I can either stop for the night or continue, depending on what I want to do. Sometimes you can zip right through the questions, other's can be a super slow process, but either way the points will slowly start to add up higher and higher. You just have to give it a shot and find out what works best for you. Good Luck!
