Sd 980is Canon Camera Malfunction
camera stopped functioning after trying to use a cell phone battery for it. Don't know whether there was a short circuit.

The battery was probably the wrong voltage. As a result you may have blown an internal safety fuse or damaged the camera.
I recommend having a camera shop look it over. Go to a REAL camera shop, not just some place that sells cameras. They should be able to look it over in about 5 minutes and tell you how best to proceed.
