Is The El1301 Acer Desktop Compatible With Dial Up? Or Do I Need A Dial Up Modem

Yes and no.  I know, that's just what you wanted to hear. 

The specs on this model state that it can be ordered with a 56k dial-up modem, but that doesn't mean it was.  You'll need to check the PC to see.  If there is an expansion card with 2 small jacks for phone cables then it already has a modem.

If thats not there you can add one.

Windows will detect the modem but you'll still need to set it up.

Where you look for the modem varies with the version of Windows you use.  For XP look in the Control Panel in "Printers and other hardware".  You'll see the "Phone and Modem options" icon.  In Windows 7 look in "Devices and Printers"  You'll see the modem icon.

So, you'll need to check because the PC could have been ordered either way.  The bottom line is yes, it's compatible with phone modems.
