When Plugged In And On It Shuts Itself Off When On My Comp, Why Does It Do That.

When I am on my computer and I want to get something from my external hd I am able to, though after a little bit the external hd shuts itself off right as I try to open it back up, better yet due to that when I go to my external hd on my comp it'll shut its self off as i am searching through the files on the external.
