Blinking Cursor On Windows Xp Bootup

The netbook had been working fine but in last day became real sluggish and now only boots to a blinking cursor.  I have gone into bios and it sees the drive but can't get past the blinking cursor.  Being a netbook there is no optical drive and no recovery disks.
