Why Won't My Machine Work?

I have to manually force the machine to start sewing with the side wheel. I can have the foot pedal all the way down and nothing happens till I turn the wheel. It seems to make a popping noise also when I turn the handle. Like it is stuck then pops loose. This is the first time I used the machine. I'm ready to trash it
