Record Button Function

I just purchased this camcorder yesturday and there is something wrong with the record function button. I turn the camera on and press the record button and it switches from standby to record and starts recording. When I press it again it stops recording and stays in the record mode. I have to press it again or sometimes a couple times for it to get back into standby mode. I went back to the store I bought it from and tried two other cameras and they both did the same thing. Is this a setting I can change? Should I just bring it back? Its really annoying...everything else works.
