Sound Edit Not Working

Changing any of the front/rear/Left/Right/Subwoofer speakers in 'sound edit' has no effect on audio/volume. For the Left and Right speakers, it goes from -6 to +6... but nothing happens... except if you go past the -6 or +6 it turns off the speaker, but there's no fading... just on or off. The subwoofer is much too loud so I literally have to go to the back of the unit and take out the wires for the subwoofer when it's too loud on a certain device. Seems pretty unacceptable. Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if anyone else has this issue?
