Where could I find a firmware update (if any) to improve the play capabilities from USB (e.g. mkv files are not playing right now)?

Based on my research, there is no available firmware update for your Samsung HT-E550/ZA that allows to play MDV Files. According to the product details provided by Cnet.com, Samsung HT-E550/ZA accepts the following video file formats.
- XviD,
- MPEG-2,
- MPEG-4,
- WMV
